As the holiday season approaches, it is exciting to think and plan about all the festive feasts and indulging treats that are coming up. I am a glutton myself and I love to EAT and THINK about food, especially their wonderful aromas, the massive food presentation, and savoring them all. However, if you are mindful of your health and weight, the aftermath of overindulging can be a scary thought, particularly after all the effort you put on your health these year. BUT fear no more, with a few simple strategies, you can enjoy your celebrations with your loved ones and prevent unwanted extra pounds. Here are some tips to help you stay on track of your health and fitness goals.
Stay Active: Maintain your regular exercise routine and find fun ways to stay active during the holidays. Weather is a brisk walk and talk with your loved ones after a meal, playing Pickleball, or having a dance party. Moving actively does not only burn calories but also boost your mood.
Plan Ahead: If you know you are attending or hosting a holiday gathering full of tasty treats, do plan your meals accordingly before the event. One way to do it is by keeping track of your daily or weekly calories and account for the days that you might overeat. You can either choose to eat something healthy and satisfying before attending the holiday feast so you avoid excess snacking or limit your calories on the days before the event. However, don’t skip meals as these will cause you to crave for more food and lead to overeating.
Be a Mindful eater: Pay attention to what and how much you are eating. Listen to your body’s hunger and savor each bite. Remember to add extra chews to your food and do fill up your plate with nutrient rich food like colorful vegetables and lean meats before adding your favorite rich and savory treats.
Stay Hydrated: I’m not talking about liquid courage here or the sugary drinks. Drink plenty of WATER throughout the day. It will help control your appetite and keep your organs functioning properly.
If you incorporate these tips into your holiday routine, you can savor the festive season without worrying about unwanted weight gain. It is all about balance and making choices that align with your health and well-being goals. And don’t forget to get plenty of sleep as these will help regulate your metabolism and support your overall well being. To conclude, enjoy and appreciate the time with your loved ones and relish all the tasty treats.
Toby and I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season! Cheers!!!! 🥂
